JMP Wish List

What inspired this wish list request?  When I am working on the DOE platform, for example, the Custom Design feature, I first list my factors and their level values. Some of these factors sometimes have 2, 3, or 4 levels. Then, I list all the effects I want to include in the model. JMP then provides the required number of runs. Sometimes, depending on the number of runs, we want to modify some factors, either by removing one level of a factor or by adding an additional level. When we do this, JMP updates the Model list, reverts to the initial list, and we need to redefine all the interactions we had previously placed in the Model list.   What is the improvement you would like to see?  Is it possible to prevent the Model list of effects from changing?   Why is this idea important?  Sometimes we have to add more than 10 interactions, and it is tedious/time-consuming to have to redo this simply because we removed one level from a factor.   ... What inspired this wish list request? A recent case where my idea was sent to development, but I also want it here for others to Kudos     What is the improvement you would like to see? The 'filter data table' option next to the column filter on the left pane should have a preference to be off by default, as should the 'show hidden columns' to be honest.     Why is this idea important? Having to check that box for each table is annoying. Thankfully the prefernce does save when you do it, but having it as a preference would make it cleaner - especially if tables are shared and I like the filtering off but a colleague wants it on. If we are working on the same data, do we just keep overwriting the others 'choice' on the table? I would think no :)     ... View more

The structure is fragile - often the shape files get lost "on the way".   What is the improvement you would like to see?  Please provide a way to "embed Shape files" in the data table. The idea: scan the data table and search links to shape files. If a link to a custom shape file is found, the 2 shape files are "added" to the data table. e.g. as scripts which create the shape files on the fly. Please also provide a way to "copy embedded shape file" to the local system (*) . (*) link to other wish to store shape files in a folder with user-write-access: Allow user to define a custom directory for background map boundary files.    Why is this idea important?  Shape Maps are wonderful - but it's too complicated to work with them. What inspired this wish list request?  @jthi presents the concept inScripters Club Recording: JMPyFacade: Bridging JMP and Python for Seamless Engaging Analysis @ 13min   What is the improvement you would like to see?  add a functionality to the number edit box() which allows te user to change the value via up/down keys on the keyboard. +/-1 is great. What inspired this wish list request?  I want to be able to see a Surface Profiler for the Desirability function vs. my X input factors.  Currently, JMP only supports the 2D Profiler for Desirability.  To see the Desirability surface today, I have to save the Y prediction formulas and the desirability formula to the data table, and then make a profiler with the Desirability formula and expand the intermediate formulas.             What is the improvement you would like to see?  See and explore the Desirability function in all its 3D glory!   Why is this idea important?  Easily & interactively visualize multiple responses and their trade-offs in a single streamlined 3D surface plot for teammates and stakeholders.     ... What inspired this wish list request?  Thank you for adding Fieller's Method (ratio of means test) to Fit Y by X in JMP 19!  There are some usability issues with this first iteration: Cannot specify which level is in the numerator or denominator of the ratio.  The test does not recognize Value Order for the X values and just automatically selects the larger mean as the denominator by default with no way to change it.  Users have to save the resulting report as a data table and take the reciprocal of all the fields to flip the ratio.     No 1-sided test.  Currently, users have to know to run a 90% confidence test to get the 1-sided 95% limits. No error handling or warnings for negative (mean) values or unstable confidence interval estimates It doesn't make sense to test the ratio of a positive to negative value (or vice versa), but the platform provides an output all the same.  The confidence limits become unstable as the ratio approaches infinity (denominator approaches 0).  This can often be addressed by taking the reciprocal of the ratio to get a more stable estimate close to 0.    The mratios package in R has error handling for negative means and warnings for unstable confidence limits.         What is the improvement you would like to see?  I'd like to add some functionality to maximize its utility for users: Specify which level is in the numerator or denominator of the ratio.    Add a 1-sided test.   Add error handling or warnings for negative (mean) values and unstable confidence limit estimates.     Why is this idea important?  Being able to reliably and confidently say whether a product is X Times Better/Faster than another product is a powerful claim for any business to make.      ... What inspired this wish list request?  when the control limits are user defined, and non symmetric (because of non symmetric distribution) the zone and the WE rules are based on symmetric gaussian distribution   What is the improvement you would like to see?  In case of non symmetric limits (non normal non symmetric distributions) the zones could be defined based on smoothing to adjust the distribution (as in process capability) and using probability and quantiles calculations to "copy" the Shewhart calculations, but it would be complex   Why is this idea important?  Because the zones, and the alarm rate is false    ... What inspired this wish list request? Answering to the topic Re: How do orthogonal axis values change with the number of center points? - JMP User Community, I have created several orthogonal blocks CCD. However, when I try to run the "Evaluate design" script from the design table, the script does nothing. When using the Evaluate design platform, I have an error message : So evaluation of orthogonal blocks CCD is by default facing an error/bug when the design table is created.    What is the improvement you would like to see? The fix was quite easy to found: for the block factor, the value of the column property "RunsPerBlock" is set to 0 by default, which makes the Evaluate design platform bug. When setting the value to the value displayed during design creation (in the screenshot 6), then the script 'Evaluate design" from the design table and the Evaluate design platform can work normally:   Creating the Orthogonal Blocks CCD for 3 factors and Block size = 6 In the block factor column, RunsPerBlock is set by default to 0, hence the bug. When I change the value to 6, the script "Evaluate design" works normally:   Why is this idea important? I haven't tested extensively all orthogonal blocks CCDs to check if this bug was always present, but it's present for at least Orthogonal Blocks CCD from 2 to 5 factors. What inspired this wish list request?   I noticed that it is possible to configure the display of outliers or quantiles, but I would like to know if it is possible to modify the box plot settings to show intervals based on standard deviations (sigma) around the mean, instead of the usual quartiles. Workaround found : hard-coded idea to demonstrate single rectangle with a line (no whiskers but they could be added with Line()) What is the improvement you would like to see?  For example, I would like the box to represent mean ± 3 sigma, and the whiskers to represent ± 4 sigma or ± 6 sigma, in order to better visualize statistical dispersion using this approach. Python in JMP: dataframe column to datatable column best practices and computation speed implications    If there is an error between begin data update() and end data update(), the data table doesn't get released and interactivity stops. Same issue when the user forgot the end data update()   What is the improvement you would like to see?  Please add an indicator to the data grid to show when interactivity is disabled because there was a begin data update without an end data update.   Why is this idea important?  If a data table gets stuck without an end data update(), it feels like a Zombie. JMP 19 What inspired this wish list request?  Currently the Sigma normalized box plots graphs are in vertical direction with the parameters in Y axis on the right side. Please provide an option to change the direction to horizontal with parameters on the X axis. Also provide an option to set up 1 std deviation, 2 std deviation , 3 std deviation.   What is the improvement you would like to see?  Why is this idea important?  The graphs can be better projected in powerpoint, with clear idea what portion of data lies in 1sigma, 2 Sigma 3 sigma limits     ... What inspired this wish list request?  It's great that JMP informs users about updates. As there is little documentation on what has changed between versions, users will not follow every tiny step. If the update doesn't install, JMP will show the message again.   What is the improvement you would like to see?  (A) Allow the user to specify the update level. Users behind a firewall may not be interested in JMP 19.0.2. However, they would be happy if features missing from JMP 19.0 were reinstated in JMP 19.1. The user could request update information for Levels .x. (B) Provide an option labelled "Don't show me info about this update again".     Why is this idea important?  Help us make the most of update notifications. What inspired this wish list request?  Spilled ranges are used extensively by any serious Excel user.  Numerous times when I've wanted to pull in data from Excel to JMP (which is something JMP should want to encourage as much as possible) for a quick analysis I find that the import did not work because JMP isn't recognizing the true used range and stops importing after the last column and last row that is NOT a spilled result.   What is the improvement you would like to see?  I would like this to work as intended.   Why is this idea important?  This error in JMP requires a small but non-zero workaround that discourages me using JMP at a single click. However, all of these refer to the same 'label' tag in the data table. He was surprised that it was not possible to open the included workflow from the main workflow. 'How can you work with such a structure? It's far too complicated!' Included workflow -> open What is the improvement you would like to see?  Provide a way to open the included workflow from the master workflow - to inspect the structure and to edit it.     Why is this idea important?  I like the concept of combining workflow steps into a "master workflow". But editing such a structure - and checking what it does: it's a mess. I just upgraded to JMP 19.  Now every table that I open I have to click the little drop down box next to the Filter text box on the column pane and select "Contains Terms" instead of "Contains Phrase". Please add a Preference to se the default Column Search to one of the options other than "Contains Phrase".     ... View more

The shape files for a Map Shape can be in any directory, but for a Background Maps they've got to be in Program Files\JMP\....\Maps. This directory is often admin protected, and sharing files means making hard copies per PC.   Allowing the user to specify a different directory (Maps folder remaining as default location) in the JSL would be great. ...
