JMP Wish List

We use map shapes and background maps with wafer maps of manufacturing data.  They are really valuable outside the geographic context.  JMP assumes if you added a background map your data wants to be geodesic coordinates, typically resetting the axes so the data disappears entirely.  This happens in X-Y but it's worse in graph builder because after you've reset it to linear it will keep going back to geodesic when you make unrelated changes to the plot - for example dragging a column over to color the data.   If the assumption is valuable maybe it could pop up once and say "hey, is "X" geodesic?  I can set the axis column property to that for you!".  Seems like column property is a good way to do it. But I find that even if set that property to Linear it will switch to Geodesic when I add a background map, it doesn't seem to honor the column property on this...   ... View more

How is it possible to change the Font setting of Y Group in graph builder?   I'm using JMP Pro 14.1   It is not possible to right-click to change those as with e.g the x-axis.   The Group font and font size are controlled by the "Text" size as specified in the Preferences for JMP.  They are not controlled as an individual graph by graph setting.      File --  Preferences -- Fonts    It would be nice to be able to control the fonts by right-clicking   ... The main data source for new JMP users will always be Excel. These can be messy, and probably used as database with manual input for KPI tracking, for example. However, neither the Excel add-in, nor the Excel wizard provide a simple way to update file from its source. This is a common request that can be found in this forum, multiple times, and all of them require scripting (see examples below). You can see the understandable response of beginners, that are drag into a complex solution to a simple request. Updating columns, adding new rows, adding new columns, all of these are complex concepts that require several steps and getting into automation via JSL or Automation Builder. I enjoy using JMP and have been a user for many years.  But one area that is lacking is the ability to make notes on a file.  Compared to Jupyter notebooks/Lab or R.  There isn't really a place to add comments to your work on the file.  I guess you can use the Journal tool, but that is more for use when you want to combine several studies.  i don't have a way of making notes to remind me or someone whomever I'm sharing the file if there were any interesting insights.  ... As you know, many of data scientist use XGBoost, LightGBM, and CatBoost (gradient boosting decision tree) to solve their problems by using Python. Could you add these modelings in the decision tree menu (JMP) as well? If it can be provided by JMP Script Language (JSL), it will be great as well. Our company (and many others) have moved to Office 365. Now we have people sharing files that reside on OneDrive instead of e-mailing a 'copy'. Microsoft has done a good job of making it hard (impossible?) for there to be version conflicts of Excel, Word, etc. If someone is editing an Excel, or a Word, the changes are saved live so anyone else who is collaborating is always using the most recent view.   When it comes to .JMP tables we are still sending copies around and having to come up with creative ways to change the file name every time a change is made in an attempt to encourage that people are using the most recent / latest-and-greatest / best-we-know data and saved scripts. There is a need to acknowledge the trend here towards the cloud.   There are steps towards democratizing analyses, but I am thinking some mechanism is also needed for data. I know there is a lot that can be done with two layers, but being limited with two layers even in JMP Pro is not a good idea. As a customer, I can get any layer in a free package of Python and I don't know why I should not be able to get the same with JMP Pro.   When performing stability regression analysis  (Analyze/Reliability and Survival/Degradation – than Stability test), to the field  "Y, Response" it is possible to add only one parameter. When I write code, I try to make it easy to read, understand, and maintain.  I write comments.  I indent code blocks.  I use line breaks to spread the code out over multiple lines.  I try to write code with a consistent style.  However, I frequently find that JMP reformats my code without asking.  It simply decides to obliterate all the effort that I put into good coding practices.   For example, I write a script and attach it to a data table.  Then I right-click on the script and press "Copy" and then right-click in the script window and press "Paste".  The copy of the script does not contain any of the comments or code block indentions that were in the original script.   Another example:  I create a formula column on a data table.  Inside of the formula editor block, I write some JSL code to perform an iterative calculation (this is really cool. I just figured out you could do this!).  Of course I want to use comments and whitespace in this code, like I would in literally any code that I write anywhere.  Well, after I hit enter, the comments are invisible until I double-click on the formula editor block.  But they do exist.  Until I click OK and JMP evaluates the formula.  Next time I open the formula, comments and whitespace are gone.   It gets worse.  I have multiple scripts attached to my table that all reference a certain column.  Then I rename that column.  All of these scripts are updated with the new column name.  But in doing so, they are all "reformatted" by the JSL parser and all of my comments and whitespace are destroyed.  ಠ_ಠ   What is the point of even having comments in the JSL language if JMP is going to immediately wipe them out at the first opportunity?  Am I supposed to edit my JSL scripts in a less-hostile text editor (i.e. Notepad++) and store the readable versions as separate files?  I just don't understand why it has to be this way.  Please leave my comments alone!   Note: @Cwalla reported the same issue in the forums here  ... The PI/AVEVA connector is substantially improved, enabling JMP to be used in manufacturing datasets.   PI AF databases have multiple elements. The window to select Attributes cannot be resized properly. In addition, we need to be able to search the data using a bar to filter elements.        Last but not least, users should be able to copy and paste the selection done in a previous moment, so the work does not need to be repeated. If it's selected, the line doesn't connect data points from left to right in the graph - but along the order in which they appear in the data table.   Instead of this graph: the user gets this graph: Much better ...   But unfortunately, there are those nasty jumps "back" to the next curve. Of course, for simple graphs, you can use a column (here "Station") as an overlay to produce 3 separate curves, without the zigzag. But already with slightly more complicated graphs like this one here: Graph Builder. Combine Smoother and Line - how? the user reaches the limits of current Graph Builder (v17, v18).       What is the improvement you would like to see?     With sorted data in the data table, a step from right to left indicates a new curve. So, with row order enabled, there could be an additional option to draw lines  "only left -> right". What inspired this wish list request?  I have come across few types of issues with data filters when working with large datasets which make filtering data very slow and unresponsive (conditional data filters getting unfiltered and using Find). Issues with Find can be related to few (bugs? or features) how Find works with local data filters, but Run would still be nice option to have.   What is the improvement you would like to see?  I would like to see an option in Filter red triangle menu to create Run button for a filter. This would allow me to filter the data to the level I want to before filtering it all.   Why is this idea important?  Using filters with data having a lot of data can get quite unresponsive from time to time, especially if there is any calculations involved. ... This leads to a which actually feels like a bug for many Jmp users - the issue: The tick settings (and with them: the Heatmap tile size!) are automatically adjusted whenever the user changes the axis range by dragging the axis or by zooming with the magnifier tool: Some problem using Heatmap    Concerning axis adjustments by dragging, @julian 's suggestion helps: hold down SHift while changing the axis scaling. But it just helps when you drag one end of the axis - if you want to zoom out by grabbing the axis and moving it away from the plot, you will ruin you plot - with and without pressing Shift. Inspiration: I am tired of resizing list boxes in dialogs so I can see items.   Improvement: Make the default widths wider and list boxes longer. They typically assume column names and data table names are very short and lists are short. Suggest dynamically computing appropriate width and length based on what is being displayed and how much space there is (also using larger dialogs - most people work on large screens and screen size can be detected), or at least add a preference setting for minimum width and length.    Why is this idea important? Half of the clicks I do in dialogs are to make the list boxes wider or longer. Fixing the issue will save time.  Here are some examples of default presentations:       ... View more

I would like to see an option for formulas to ignore excluded rows without having to build this into the formula using the "exclude state" formula function.  I think the easiet way for this to be implemented is to have it as a column property option in the formula column property option box So just one more check box here that would say "treat excluded rows as missing"   Thanks for considering this request.   Steve ... Random effects should (almost) always have a 'Nominal' modeling type. I have seen multiple times where JMP users have random effects in their model with a 'Continuous' modeling type and the results are incorrect and the issue is difficult to spot. If JMP gave a warning message if any random effects were not 'Nominal', it would greatly reduce the problem. ... View more
