newbie: create data over time based on rows with start/stop data

Hi,
I'm wondering if I can do this out of the box in JMP or if there's a recommendation on how to do this:
(my alternative is writing something in Perl but as I'm trying to learn JMP would like a JMP solution :)

Given this sort of data:

ID | opened | closed | quantity
----------------------------------------------------------
1 | 2010-01-01 | 2010-01-03 | 1
2 | 2010-01-02 | | 2
3 | 2010-01-02 | 2010-10-05 | 3

I'd like to get this data and then graph with x being a time line and Y being total quantity open:

on date | total quantity open
----------------------------------------------------------
2010-01-01 | 1
2010-01-02 | 6
2010-01-03 | 5
2010-01-04 | 5
2010-01-05 | 2

Re: newbie: create data over time based on rows with start/stop data

The file import is pretty easy with the Text file Import with Preview. It will save the script for you, too. The JSL to code the rest can be done, but it won't be nearly as elegant as Perl.

Honestly if I had this exact task, the Perl code would be simple, quick, and only a few lines long. I would not have considered JSL for this :).
