  • When should you only evaluate main effects? (Not main + 2nd Order Interaction)

Hi, I'd like to know when does a situation call for evaluation of only main effects, while ignoring interaction effects. Me and a colleague have different approaches to how screening designs are performed so I'd like to understand what others think. We can assume the following:This is a screening design (Let's say 4 factors - 2 Level)Nothing is known of the interactions up to this point and in the...

  • Why is it not a good idea to set continuous factor to zero for RSM

Dear JMP-Experts, I have quite often the case that continuous factor settings including a zero for lowest factor setting (0, 1, 2) are requested for liquid biotech formulation optimizations. These requests usually come people who are used to set up experiments with OFAT and it is not intuitve for them to understand, that setting factor to zero technical means to have a categorical factor setting.
    I...

  • Information tools for analysis of Definitive Screening Designs

Hello, In the JMP course on Statistical Thinking for Industrial Problem Solving, the module on DOE does not handle the specific analysis of Definitive Screening Designs (DSD). Any other source of information that can be helpful for someone who is more familiar to the analysis of factorial designs but new to DSD analysis?  Thank youSara

  • How are odd factor settings in D-optimal RSM generated

Dear JMP expert, I set up two RSM designs, one with 3 factors (two continuous and one discrete numerical with four levels) and one with 4 factors (same as first plan but one more factor) using the custom designer (See Excel sheet with blinded factors).  Now I have to explain my colleges in easy words, why I have odd factor settings (see red marked in excel sheet), which is difficult for me since I...

  • How to treat replicates and failed runs in a definitive screening design

Hi community, I am having trouble modeling some data that I got from a DSD. This was a screen of 10 factors. We ran this with 3 blocks (operators) and I included the maximum number of extra runs (8). This gave me a table of 31 runs. We did some initial range-finding experiments to set reasonable bounds for all of the factors. Unfortunately we still got 4 runs where the reaction completely failed, ...

  • Design experiments that combine mixture components with categorial factors - Case Help

Hello everyone,  I have recently attended several courses on Mixture Design. I am now ready to try the principles out in real-life scenarios.  I have the following case. There will be the following things: 3 mixture factors 3 Categorical factors  Most of the recipe is fixed at 83,275% which I will call the BASE - this part will not be changed. So I have used the Mixture Sum function and set that to...

  • Linear constraints in mixture design

I am facing difficulties in implementing the constraints for my mixture design. The design consists of water as a filler and four additives, namely A1, A2, A3, and A4, which have specified value ranges. I need to impose a combination constraint that allows a maximum of two out of the three factors, A2, A3, and A4, to be used simultaneously. A1 and water are not important in constraining, but it is...

  • Do 3rd order effects help define curvature?

If you have are making a design with a factor you are certain will have a quadratic relationship against a response but you have a wide range, can it be helpful to define a 3rd order model effect for that factor to better identify and model curvature. I work in purification and we often deal with a recovery vs. purity balance. This relationship is usually quadratic around the optimal, where at a l...

  • Neural networks that learn and predict in real time (incremental learning)

Hello community!!A query:- How JMP is configured to generate neural networks that learn from their inputs in real time (incremental learning) in such a way that it continually updates its weights according to new inputs and generates updated real-time predictions.Greetings,Marco

  • Which predictive analysis method/column organisation for RSM output with duplicate samples

Hi all. So I'm working on a project where I have 2 x component classes, each of which has 4 items within the class, which are mixed together at varying concentrations over 48 combinations. Figured the best Factor way to do this was to use 2 x Continuous for the max/min concentrations for each class, then 2 x 4-level Categoricals for each of the items. Each of the combinations was made twice, so af...

  • Caution: Places where Jmp does something unexpected

Definitely, JMP is Not a Spreadsheet . And that's great!! Besides this difference, there are other places where Jmp doesn't do/behave/produce what a newbie / innocent Jmp user expects.
If a user knows these issues and the remedies and workarounds -  he/she can
    a) save a lot of time b) be safe from data loss c) be sure that the results are as expected.
