JMP Wish List

Most of my other editors allow Ctrl Shift Z to be a redo.  When I do Ctrl+Shift+Z in JMP, I get some weird      Definitely not ideal as it just wipes out my redo stack.   I can't edit it through toolbar customizations using the builtin edit:redo, but I do have a workaround with JSL   mainmenu("edit:redo");   Possible to add undo/redo shortcut buttons to toolbar? reminded me of this.         ... "Platforms" list under "Preferences" is too long. It should be arranged hierarchically (rather than alphabetically) with "Aanalyze" platform names at the higherst order, followed by type of analysis under each platform, then tests under each analysis. ... View more

With omics datasets becoming the norm, JMP needs a straightforward way to visualize high-dimensional data... Tsne and UMAP are becoming the norm for this purpose, PC analysis just won't cut it for publication. The availability of Tsne and UMAP as native tools in JMP would make a world of difference for those of us who don't want/know how to work with R or Python!!!  Thank you for your attention L.   ... ☐ cool new feature ☑ could help many users! ☐ removes something that feels like a „bug“ ☐ nice to have ☐ nobody needs it   #myTop10_2024  What inspired this wish list request?  JMP provides many useful platforms and great functionality for exploratory data analysis.   But even after 18 versions of JMP - there is still some low-hanging fruit to be picked - such as is in spec(value)        What is the improvement you would like to see?  For a column with Spec limits, please provide   a JSL function is in spec(:value) which compares the value of the current row with the spec limits of the column and returns 1 if the value is in spec, missing, if the value is missing and 0 if the value is out of spec  a functions is out of spec(:value) which compares the value of the current row with the spec limits of the column and returns 0 if the value is in spec missing, if the value is missing -1 if :value[] < LSL +1 if :value[] >USL   Both functions should be available via the right click "new formula column" menu. I'm a little underwhelmed at times with the options available under the DOE --> Design Diagnostics --> Sample Size and Power menu. Inclusive values will fix the issue ...   long: During the Semiconductor Lunch meeting @ Discovery Summit 2024 Europe, we found out that many of us have a similar problem:   GraphBuilder Plots with missing data.   examples: - date with missing month, day, year ( A way to show a date with no data in graph builder ) - wafer lists with missing wafer (for 25 wafers in a 5x5 grid generated via Wrap, wafer #20 should always be at the same position, independent of how many wafers < 20 are in the data / missing) - wafermaps with missing dies - pass / fail - bins with pre-defined categories (0 occurences for a specific bin) ... Motivation via date:  at first glance, nobody will notice that the data for Tuesday is missing - there is not even a label on the axis.   To make the missing day appear, one can add a dummy row, Day of Week = Tue, all other entries of the row: missing.   ... till somebody uses a data filter - then Tue is gone:   The only way to make it work: a dummy row for EVERY (!!!) item in the data filter. And if the user has a chance to change the column for the data filter: for EVERY item in ANY column the user may pick. Ouch !!!   What is the improvement you would like to see?  Please add a column property for inclusive values *) - values which should always show up on the axis. For days of week: all days of the week :) For 25 "wafers" in a lot: all numbers from 1 to 25. For pass/fail : pass and fail . Such that one day when there is a lot with 0 fails the plot will say: fails = 0. Instead of: not showing any number of fails.   Besides usage for axes, also X/Y Group & Wrap should react on the new setting. Our company is now using automated scripts in JMP connecting to our Laboratory management system, LIMS, to pull data for SQC reports.  These need to be reviewed for 'bad data' prior to sending to customers.  Samples undergo multiple tests which need to be arranged in columns - 1 row per sample.  Most of the 'bad data' relates to a single test (maybe a typo or a measurement special cause) so we don't want to exclude the whole suite of testing just to remove that single point. JMP's row structure to data currently means the only way this is possible is to exclude values in column properties or delete the value from the cell.   ... View more

The Query Builder in Jmp is nice to generate SQL queries via a GUI. But there are queries which cannot be generated via the GUI: Database access  With JMP 17, In the query builder, how can add "WITH UR" at the end of the SQL code?    The only solution at the moment: change to custom SQL - and at that moment lose all GUI options to make further changes to the query.   What is the improvement you would like to see?  Please improve the GUI to provide advanced SQL option: - add the functionality to "explode" entries and "index" column entries - allow the user to manually enter advanced SQL strings - which then can be added at specific positions of the main SQL query string.     Why is this idea important?  Users are not forced anymore to abandon the Query Builder when they have to add an expression to their query which is not supported by the Query Builder GUI.         more wishes submitted by   ... All our data is generated in the form of stdf files.  This is a type of binary file used in the semiconductor industry.  We currently must rely on a third party add-in to convert the stdf into a JMP table.  It would be nice to have this capability integrated into JMP. ... View more

What inspired this wish list request? When I need to filter multiple items in a list it is great to be able to type in the main portion of the "item" so that the filter only shows relevant items.  However, when I then go to filter additional items and thus clear the filter text box when I type in a new main portion of an item into the filter text box it resets the selections.   In this example I want to select all names starting with C and J.  So I start with c's:   clear the filter text box and so far so good....   Then go to J's: and now my c's are no longer selected...         What is the improvement you would like to see? Please allow the ability for the previously selected items to not be cleared, thus the change in filtered items can be additive.     Why is this idea important? This will speed up the process of filtering columns with lots of levels that are not in easy to find blocks.     ... The only disadvantage: it generates a new data table instead of updating the main table.   I often have a table, with table dozens of table scripts which evolved over time - and Dashboards which refer to this table. To widen the analysis, I want to add a column to the table - but Tables/Join generates a new table.   What is the improvement you would like to see?  Please add an option in Tables/Join: Update main table. If the option is enabled, the platform should update the main table instead of generating a new one.   If Jmp developers fear that Tables:Join gets too crowded by this option, they could hide the option behind a shift-click or invisible to other users.   Why is this idea important?  There is no fast way to merge new columns to a data table.  Table/Join is almost the perfect tool - but it generates a new table. What inspired this wish list request? need to make transparent PNG with graphic script   What is the improvement you would like to see? Allow graph background color of 'transparent'. This is not the same as the window background color. The Variability Chart platform is the only one that provides the option to get Bayesian variance components. It feels misaligned to not have the Bayesian option available in Fit Model as well. I do get questions from users at my company around getting different output for the same analysis, but using a different platform because any negative variance component may switch from REML to Bayesian without them realizing it when using the Variability Chart platform (even though there is some text with an explanation, they don't know what it means and/or don't pay attention). My default is to use the Fit Model platform with bounded variance components for random effects models (there is a 'soft' recommendation from JMP to do this on the last section of Mixed Models and Random Effect Models.   If the Bayesian option is available in Variability Chart, I'd like the flexibility to leverage it with a more flexible model structure in Fit Model as well.   There has been some good work done by the JMP folks to investigate the utility of the Bayesian option (mostly because negative variance components are really confusing to, well, everyone). STOP THEM !!! Long: Many of the Platforms in the Tables menu provide the option Save Script to Source Table. Is is an elegant way to save the command with all the settings as a Table Script Platform_Name Script. There is even an auto-increment function which prevents Jmp from overwriting previous Table Script with the same name.   But there are two exceptions: Update and Concatenate. As all the other functions, Concatenate saves the command script as a Table Script (name: source) to the output table. Exception: If the option Append to first table is enabled, the main table is the output table - and NO script is saved (perhaps to prevent Jmp from over-writing an existing source Table script?)   For Update the main table is always used as output table. This function saves a table script with the current settings (name: source) to the main table and thereby: overwrites any existing source table script (!). Table / Update - source script collision      What is the improvement you would like to see?  Concatenate and Update should follow the naming scheme of the other Table platforms. i.e. save a script with the current settings to a Table Script with name Concatenate Script or Update Script. An auto-increment feature should be used to prevent Jmp from overwriting existing scripts.     Why is this idea important? The auto-generation of JSL source code is a great feature. But over-writing an existing source code is more ham than good .
