Inaugural Mid-Atlantic JMP Users Group a Big Success

On Sept. 16, more than 40 JMP users gathered at John Hopkins University in Laurel, Maryland, for the first Mid-Atlantic JMP Users Group. Attendees included the JMP users in the photo at left: Jose Ramirez, Jen Barb, Susan Dorsey, Manny Uy and Mel Alexander. Several dynamic speakers were featured from the commercial, government and academic sectors to provide a variety of perspectives, including Mel Alexander from the University of Maryland Medical School, Jose Ramirez of W.L. Gore & Associates and Manny Uy of John Hopkins University.

Topics included “Avoiding Futile Drug Administration Using JMP Software”, “Evaluation of Chemical and Biological Detectors with JMP Custom Designs” and “Statistical Intervals: Confidence, Prediction and Enclosure.” John Sall, Executive VP and Co-Founder of SAS, was also on hand to deliver a keynote address on the new capabilities of JMP 8 scheduled for released in mid-November.

Attendance reflected the same variety of disciplines, with around 50 percent of attendees from academia, 25 percent from commercial and 25 percent from the government. The users group plans another meeting on Dec. 10 at the University of Maryland's School of Nursing; that meeting will feature the use of JMP in the biomedical, health and life sciences, as well as a forum to discuss the beta version of JMP 8.

Looking ahead to 2009, the group hopes to host a first-quarter meeting at the US National Institutes of Heath in Bethesda, Maryland, that will focus on JMP Genomics.

In addition to Sall and Uy (second and third from left in the photo below), Hope Walker and Doug Robinson of JMP (first and far right) also attended the meeting.
