Custom design DOE with disallowed combinations - JMP 11

Hello,

i made a Custom Design DOE (Jmp 11) according to the following code snippet (There are a many german names in it). As you can see there are a lot of disallowed combinations.

Why does it pair combinations that I explicitly told it to avoid? I have marked two (of many more) in red.

I already tried ordering the discrete numeric factor "Ziehspaltverhältnis" in ascending order & "dropping all the two-way interactions that involve the two factors being disallowed like it is suggested here: Disallowed combination troubleshoot in Jmp 8.0

But it still doesn't work.

Did you try to see if it works if you change your discrete numeric to a categorical factor just to see if that helps?

It works! First of all when you want to exclude a discrete numeric factor you mustn't write the ordinal but the real value. And secondly, I changed the disallowed combinations when the design was already finished and then wondered why the table wasn't affected.

I was just writing a response and looks like you figured it out! You're correct, that discrete numeric needs the real value, since disallowed combinations treats it as a continuous variable (for other readers of this, see the script below). Depending on the model and optimality critrerion you choose, you may find that not all the values are used with discrete numeric, since the design is more efficient. You'll likely see better balance of that discrete numeric factor if you treat it categorical, but will be harder to pick up the main effect if you analyze the data with that factor as continuous.
