☐ cool new feature ☐ could help many users! ☐ removes a „bug“ ☑ nice to have ☐ nobody needs it What inspired this wish list request? The"Initial Data" setting in the column menu is very useful. Constand values, sequences, random values and ... today. One can even specify if "today" is just the date - or date and time: amazing! But sometimes, the user doesn't want to get the current date, just some "default" year or month ... What is the improvement you would like to see? Please combine the approach of "initial data" with the functionality of input format - to define "default" values which will be used if no other value is specified in the current input: With a setting like this one, if the user enters 24.01., it will automatically be converted to 24.01.2024. If he enters 24., it will become 24.08.2024: Even more useful: Today as default setting - either via or via the Format Pattern: then Jmp will behave like this: if no value is specified, Jmp will enter the current date. if no year is specified, Jmp will use the entered date + the current year [like Excel does!] In 99% of the cases, if a user writes 24.02. he doesn't think of a day back in 1904. Why does Jmp think the user is thinking about a day in 1904? So, every time a user enters a date, he has to remember that Jmp thinks that he is thinking of a day in 1904 .. if no month/year is specified, Jmp will use the entered day + the current month and year with #3 Jmp an go beyond what is possible in Excel ... maybe useful: if just a month is specified, Jmp uses the current date, but replaces the month with the specified one. [does anybody need this?] Same for date and time: if just a time is specified, the current date is added automatically. [for this case, time should be first in the input, date should be second] Why is this idea important? Just imagine that a user can write 24. to get 24.03.2024. This will facilitate entering data (dates & times) a lot! other wishes from
