Feature Request: More Flexible Sorting Options in JMP Tables

Hi JMP team,

I would like to suggest an enhancement to the Sort Table functionality.

Currently, sorting works well, but it would be very helpful to have more explicit control over how values are sorted—similar to Excel. For example:

  • Option to sort explicitly A to Z / Z to A for text
  • Option to sort numeric values properly (small to large / large to small), especially when numbers may be stored as text
  • Clear selection of sorting logic within the Sort dialog

This would improve usability, particularly when working with mixed data types or imported datasets.

Hi, thank you for posting this request! A few questions:

  • What version of JMP are you using? 
  • Are you using the Sort platform (in the tables menu) or sorting in the table? 

We have some improvements to Sort in JMP 20 that you can try if you join our Early Adopter program. You are able to join if you are an authorized user of JMP.
