  • PCA/Factor Analysis with ordinal data

I have a dataset from social sciences that contains many ordinal categorical variables with > 2 levels which are linked to scores like 1 2 3..I was asked if there are correlations between these ordinal variables so question: how to carry out correlation and PCA/Factor Analysis with this kind of data? Thanks for help!

  • How to perform MANOVA with continuous variables which are not normally distributed (non-parametric)

I am performing an analysis of hemoglobin values at 3 different time points between cases and controls. The data is not normally distributed. How should I go about with MANOVA in such a setting? Also is there an alternative test that I can apply in JMP to see the differences in the cases & controls at these 3-time points.

  • One Way ANOVA figure for Scientists

I get asked about this one figure a lot. Almost as many times as I've made it.  A google search for ANOVA images brings up this figure with hundreds of different data sets.      I put together a Blog Post with a Script  for how to make the figure.  There are a number of subtle variations out there too.   So...  How do you make this figure?   I'm thinking of making launch dialog that includes opti...

  • JSL: Color or Mark by Column

I'm trying to color and mark by a specific column that was created using the "Word()" function. For some reason, the "Color or Mark by Column" function doesn't work with the (word) formula created column. It works fine for any other columns that were originally in the table. Is there a line of code I can add or modify to get this working?     New Column( "AM or PM", character, Formula( Word( 5, :"...

  • Working with dates

Hi, I have a set of data with information from 2010 to 2020. I'm trying to create a formula column for data before and after 2012 so that that I can compare these 2 sets of data. How do I manipulate the date data? Thanks.

  • For Smoother lines, can the volume/density of data be used to adjust the thickness of the Smoother line?

I often use Smoother+Overlay to check how independent categorical variables affect dependent continuous variables in a time trend plot. But one issue I often encounter is when different categories have different volumes of data, the smoother lines are equally as big even if one category has 200 data points and another category has 4 data points. This can create busy plots where it's hard to distin...

  • How do I have two different chart types in a single graph using two axis?

While doing some research to answer this question, I found this article on the JMP community that helped me get started. How do I do a combination bar and line plot using Overlay Plot?    Using the big class sample data example of height and weight I was able to create a bar chart for weight and a line plot for height on the same chart using the Overlay Plot.     To do this, first clear the row s...

  • How do I calculate z-scores at different aggregation levels?

Hello,  How do I use JSL to calculate Z-scores at different levels of aggregation? I am working with cancer mortality data (1999 - 2015) at the county-level. I need to calculate Z-scores to compare each county to the others within a state and all counties within the country. I cannot simply use the standardize function because it automatically takes an average of rates--which is invalid unless the...
