What inspired this wish list request?
In Graph Builder, the Category Filter currently orders category levels only by element count. While this default behavior is useful in some cases, it becomes limiting when the analysis is focused on other key metrics.
For example, when analyzing categories by total value, average performance, or median response, the filter order does not reflect the most relevant information for the analysis. As a result, users need to manually scan or adjust charts to identify important categories, which is not always efficient.
What is the improvement you would like to see?
I would like to see the Category Filter in Graph Builder allow ordering by additional statistics or parameters, aligned with the existing chart order options. For example, users could choose to order categories by:
Sum
Mean
Median
(Potentially other summary statistics already supported by Graph Builder)
This could be implemented as an additional sorting option within the Category Filter settings, similar to the order controls available for graphs. Consistency between filter ordering and chart ordering would significantly improve usability and analytical workflow.
Why is this idea important?
This improvement would:
Enhance data exploration by letting users focus immediately on the most relevant categories
Improve consistency between how data is displayed in charts and how categories are presented in filters
Reduce manual effort when working with large numbers of categories
Support more meaningful and efficient analysis when key insights depend on statistics other than count
Overall, this enhancement would make Graph Builder more intuitive and powerful, especially for users performing advanced or metric-driven analyses.
