Axis Customization - Line Thickness, Description Font, Letter Size

Hey everybody!

I'm currently working on a boxplot graphic that is supposed to look very similar to the attached example (relevant data omitted). I would like to chance the thickness of the lines that represent the x-axis and y-axis to match the overall aesthetic of the graphic (line thickness: 2). Also, I would like to change the appearance of the descriptions on the right (red boxes), namely their font and the size of their letters.

Is there an easy way to do that? Please keep in mind that I'm not good with scripts and would prefer a "point and klick" solution. I'm using JMP 17.1.0.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Axis Customization - Line Thickness, Description Font, Letter Size

You may have a look at the New Platform Presets in JMP18

which will facilitate generation of plots with pre-defined settings.

Concerning font size of the grouping labels, there are some requests in the wish list to add a possibility to change the settings interactively:

function to delete subplot titles (or any GraphBuilderGroupBox in general)

Change Font (Size) on grouping variables in graph builder

Right-click to change Group font and font size

The last one collected some Kudos, so maybe it will be implemented in a future release ...

Unfortunately: At the moment, one needs to adjust the font settings in the preferences
... with collateral effects on all your Jmp windows

If you just need something like tiny / standard / big, you don't have to go to the preferences, you can use the one-click solution from Graph Builder Toolbar (which actually changes the settings in the preferences! - with the same collateral effects; just less effort)

Concerning "line widths", there is a request in the wish list -- with focus on the grid lines.

The Idea: to get a better separation between different levels of hierarchy. optimized graphics settings for hierarchical X categories - 2 options

... you could add a comment and request a similar setting for the frame.

Workarounds at the moment:

- use reference lines; fortunately, they allow different line widths.
very nasty: if the scale changes, you have to shift the pseudo frame lines.

- instead of adjusting the width, adjust the color (via preferences):

Re: Axis Customization - Line Thickness, Description Font, Letter Size

For short wins, such workarounds are quite useful

The workarounds feel like solutions to puzzle games.
Users are so happy to know the solution that what normally feels like a pain feels more like a victory.

But for easy and efficient daily work in Jmp, it's much better to implement the missing functionality in Jmp. It will feel much less like a "victory":  any Jmp user can do it, less separation between pros and beginners.

but trust me - it will feel great

available now in Jmp18:

Graph Builder: Summary Statistics for Smoother

Graph Builder - align 'pages' next to each other

waiting for Kudos:

Add CDFs to Graph Builder
X group: restrict the values on the axis to the respective group
optimized graphics settings for hierarchical X categories - 2 options

Graph Builder - Overlay by multiple columns

Graph Builder: support more than 2 'Color' columns
Parallel Plot: synchronized axes

Graph Builder: more flexibility for Marker Selection mode

Graph Builder: polar plot
