  • Using Update Table for VLOOKUP like function not working?

I have a list of names, many of which repeat in one data table. I would like to populate new columns with each subject's age, sex, and other demographic information. This information is stored in a separate data table. From previous forum responses, it seems like the Update Table function is recommended as the easiest way to mimic the VLOOKUP function in excel. Unfortunately, I can't seem to make ...

  • Nonlinear Fit SSE Grid Scripting Syntax

I'm using JMP 17.2 and I can't find much information online with how to script an SSE Grid using the nonlinear tool under 'Specialized Modeling'. I can see from the scripting index the below, but I can't see how to set the min, max, and number of points programmatically via the scripts. Is someone able to explain the syntax that can be used with SSE Grid with an example of setting the parameter mi...

  • Interval Explorer for One Sample Variance

I don't understand what the interval, lower and upper bound outputs for this explorer tool are - they don't seem to match the traditional chi^2 math you would do to calculate the CI of a stdev. "Interval" doesn't even seem to match the range between the upper and lower bound....What are the units of interval width? Are they dependent on the value of the standard deviation? Is it a half width or a fu...

  • Need Help Finding Statistical Tools to Analyze Occurrence/Frequency

I am investigating whale occurrence off the U.S. mid-Atlantic coast using almost two decades of species presence data. I am interested in learning if the frequency, or overall occurrence, of whales varies over time in the study area off Virginia and North Carolina I've begun exploring the data qualitatively by creating graphs, like the one attached to this message. I am interested in identifying w...

  • Is there a way to tell LCA that the rows are ordered by class?

Typical dataset: 120-200 rows, 15 classes. Rows are known to be ordered by class. What is unknown is where the 'fences' between classes are. As-is -- i.e., without taking row order into account -- LCA correctly classifies about 94% of rows. My intuition is that if I knew how to tell the algorithm that the rows are grouped by class on input, we'd be at 100%. Visual, in case my use of 'grouped by' i...

  • Characters as Markers: How to get rid of the shadows?

I like the ability to add outlines to data points. This is very useful for separating partially overlapping data points.Unfortunately, when characters are used as markers, the outline mode looks very unprofessional - kind of like shadows, but without blur.Besides turning off the outline mode - is there a way to get rid of the "shadows"? (view in My Videos)  Names Default to Here(1); dt = Open( "$S...

  • I would like to find another political scientist or other social scientist who has worked with mapping congressional districts and counties

There are great bodies of data presented by counties (disease incidence, education, income). There are other bodies of data presented by congressional districts (incumbents, vote percentages, etc.)  I want to find someone who has mapped the counties and the congressional districts into the same space.  I know this can be done with ESRI products, but  I wanted to avoid jumping off the JMP platform....
