What inspired this wish list request?
Sometimes a data filter doesn't do what the user wants it to do - because the filter auto-adjusts the settings by intersecting the filter settings with the values in the current data set.
What is the improvement you would like to see?
To solve the issue please add an option to adjust the filter settings to the current data - which can be enabled (like now) and disabled (new).
Why is this idea important?
At the moment, it is the standard behavior of a Data filter to adjust the settings to the current data.
With the new setting, a user will have the chance to prevent Jmp from doing so.
Application cases:
- If there is NO overlap between the data filter settings and the content of the current data table, the data filter is removed (?!)
The expected behavior for 0 overlap is: the filter is not removed - no data is displayed.
With the new option (disabled), the data filter can be kept like it is and it will be possible to generate a report with "filter = outliers", which shows "0 outliers" if there are 0 outliers: Outlier screening with Jmp Dashboards - how?
- If a limit for a continuous variable is outside of the range of values in the current data table, the current version of Jmp automatically adjusts the limit to the data. Data filter: how to specify the limits
With the new option, the user will have be able to disable this effect if he doesn't want that the filter gets adjusted.
- For Modeling Type Multiple Response there is an option to invert the filter (option "None").
So, the user can list values which should not be displayed.
If by chance, such a value is not in the current data set, the value will be removed from the filter.
If the user saves the new setting, the filter setting will be lost:

The new option will give the user the chance to keep the settings.
