What inspired this wish list request? While attending a training put on by the JMP User Support team (Clark Ledbetter), I noticed that JMP Projects seem a good way to keep various analyses organized and separate. However, if the analysis is still evolving (i.e., taking in new data), it requires a data table to be saved before being dragged-and-dropped from Windows Explorer into the project. Updating data tables currently-housed in the Project (e.g., using the Update Table function) is impossible without so many workarounds that render it impractical.
What is the improvement you would like to see? I would like to be able to designate tables (via the Home Window or other means) to be included in a Project. I would also like the Project data tables to be able to interact normally with other data tables currently open in JMP (the assumption being that the new merge/updated table should be able to be easily made a part of the Project as well).
Why is this idea important? JMP Projects' use are currently limited to after-the-fact organization of data and graphs for documentation and presentation. The ability to interact more seamlessly with currently-open (but not yet saved) data tables would allow the use of Projects for currently ongoing analyses as well. I often find myself multitasking with many similarly-named data tables open at one time; the ability to stick them into different projects as I am working on them would be a big boost to my ongoing work organization. I am sure I am not alone in this regard.
I am using JMP18.1.1.
