JMP on AVD

We are considering offering JMP to our employees running on an Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).

Is anyone else doing this?

Has this been considered a viable option?

Are there any system requirements or limitations we should be considering?

Re: JMP on AVD

My suggestion is to contact your JMP sales support organization.  JMP licensing is the issue that I think may be an issue since JMP is typically licensed per user, not a shared license pool.  I can see on the web that NCSU offers JMP on ADV so it appears to be able to run in that environment.

Re: JMP on AVD

The biggest issue I have seen with deploying JMP via application virtualization is "where is the data"?  That is, where do I open and store data and JMP output files (data tables, journals, exports to various file formats).  If you are accustomed to having your files local, often the application virtualization has it's own file system, and you have to be able to get to the files from your local computer AND the virtualization environment.

Also, performance can be an issue.  I recommend thorough real-user testing of any application virtualization approach for JMP.

Re: JMP on AVD

As someone who used to support JMP users (as a JMP senior systems engineer) now retired...I agree with everything @MathStatChem and @txnelson have contributed. One slight nuance to @MathStatChem 's thoughts on '...where's the data?' is, in addition, '...where's the users?' If users are scattered all over the remote world, network performance on a large or complex scale can also greatly influence the user experience. As @MathStatChem recommends...lots of prepurchase testing in conjunction with your IT colleagues is strongly recommended. It all starts with a call to your JMP sales team.
