By default, column formulas include "excluded" rows in the calculation.

An easy solution is to add "excluded()" explicitly as a group by option:

The previous post is great: it explains how the problem can be solved in JSL.

This wish was triggered by the original post - but it goes beyond just a "solution".

A user of the current version of jmp still has to find out that something goes wrong, search the community and find the correct post.

Even then the user 

- has to be aware of the issue *)

- has to know how to fix it

- has to fix it manually

whenever he wants to add a column via "new formula column".

All these 3 topics could be addressed by adding a "group by excluded()" option to the "new formula column" menu.

Looking at the problem you have described, the main issue is that column formulas that calculate summary values from other columns do not respect the excluded row state, and we need a better and more obvious way to enable the user to be able to do that.

Discussed @DACH2024:
as an alternative hint for new users:

if a user creates a column formula with an aggregation like COL Mean() 

AND if there are excluded rows in the table, JMP should warn the user that the result is most probably wrong.

The warning can be disabled in the dialog - or via the preferences.

This will guarantee that every user knows about this conflict between column formulas and row exclusion.

[every newbie will assume that Column Formulas behave the same as Tables/Summary Statisitcs, Tabulate, Graph Builder, Distribution, any platform ....]
