Tables - Update: Highlighting changes

What inspired this wish list request?

While waiting for a universal update tool (Join, Concat and Update - JMP User Community),

it's already great so have now with Jmp 17 a Preview Area in the Tables - Update Platform.

This functionality helps a lot to check and adjust the setting "on the fly".

What is the improvement you would like to see?

Please implement a functionality in the Preview area.

- highlight added columns

- highlight columns with changes (the amount of changes could be indicated with different color intensities)

- highlight changed entries

Why is this idea important?

The preview is already great. Thanks to the development team - wonderful idea!

But it's still a bit dangerous.

The columns in the main table look exactly the same - no matter if there were changes or not.

A user who wants to add some specific columns could ignore the Replace part.

This is particularly dangerous as the default setting or Replace is "All" - so kind of: biggest harm possible for any unexperienced user you didn't care.

Highlighting the newly added Columns will help in addition to better see the changes.

This feature is extremely important for new Jmp users -  as the platform starts with Replace columns: ALL!

Just imagine how many users destroyed their main table because they wanted to ADD a column - but did not notice that they have to disable the Replace ALL columns.

And just imagine how many users changed their main table without noticing ...

In our company we replaced Table/Update with a harmless version which starts with Replace Columns: None.

Besides that, just 2 Kudos in > 1 year.

@Sarah-Sylvestre : this topic can be archived.
