Opening of Sample data Table under a project needs to open it in the project, not in the global JMP

If you are in a project window and you go to

     Help==>Sample Data Library

and open a sample data table, it does not open in the project space.  It should open in the project.

With JMP 16 double-clicking on a data table will open it in a project if the project window is the topmost window in the JMP session.
