We want to hear your ideas for improving JMP software.

We consider several factors when looking for what ideas to add to JMP. This includes what will have the greatest benefit to our customers based on scope, needs and current resources. Product ideas help us decide what features to work on next. Additionally, we often look to ideas for inspiration on how to add value to developments already in our pipeline or enhancements to new or existing features.

Opening JMP file stored in local company network

What inspired this wish list request? 

When opening a JMP file (located on a shared folder in a company local network), JMP is copying it locally and opening it, modifications are only local until file is saved.

But if in the meantime, the same file is open and modified by another user, some modificaitons can be lost. 

 

What is the improvement you would like to see? 

A message box informing that the file is yet opened by someone else can be very useful, or at least informing the user that you have to be careful with shared files.

May be a lock information can be added to the JMP files ?

 

Why is this idea important? 

Important because I experienced this situation and it is always annoying to discover that we have lost data or analyses!

I see the same issue with files stored on OneDrive/Sharepoint.

Multiple users can work on the file. But changes get lost (or the file is stored with an appendix) if another user changed the file in the meantime:
