Filter Data Table preference

What inspired this wish list request? A recent case where my idea was sent to development, but I also want it here for others to Kudos

What is the improvement you would like to see? The 'filter data table' option next to the column filter on the left pane should have a preference to be off by default, as should the 'show hidden columns' to be honest.

Why is this idea important? Having to check that box for each table is annoying. Thankfully the prefernce does save when you do it, but having it as a preference would make it cleaner - especially if tables are shared and I like the filtering off but a colleague wants it on. If we are working on the same data, do we just keep overwriting the others 'choice' on the table? I would think no :)

Really depends on the use case.

I really love that 'filter data table' is on by default - so interactive now!
Define useful tags - and restrict the data table to your current needs.

So, agree, we need a preference to adjust the settings to the personal needs.
One to deactivate the the influence of the filter on the data grid.
and maybe a second to apply the same filter to all reports.

Very cool: temporarily hide additional columns as long as they are not needed.

I understand why 'show hidden columns'  is not activated by default - Agree: it's very useful.
... but somehow frightening - how to get the columns  back? (sure, by deactivating the option)
-> an option in the preferences will help to satisfy the need of every user.

I completely agree @hogi on the personal preference. I have definitely seen where I use the it as the default... and I think I would turn it off/need the preference if it did a better job maintaining 'position' if i turn the filter on/off when i am searching.

If this was data i used regularly, i also agree tags would be a great help. But my use case is often 'on the fly' mining and troubleshooting so my experience with the data isn't at a level tags are beneficial yet.

Anyways, it's super excting to see stuff like this moving forward :)

What I wrote in the previous post about hidden columns referred to the columns menu on the left of the data grid.

Besides that:
If a column is hidden (in the data grid) - and maybe even hidden in the column list on the left of the data grid...

it should be hidden in ALL column lists - especially those of the reports:

Is there a hidden setting?
"Don't hide hidden columns in reports?"
how can I deactiate it?
