When you change something on preferences-->platforms and hit apply, it should be possible to see what the changes are without closing the preferences!
This way it would be possible to see what each setting is doing to the evaluation. this future is blocked at the moment, as soon jmp preferences are open, you can not work on JMP anymore until you close the window (to reopen it again, ....)
