What inspired this wish list request? Materials engineers commonly use Ashby plots to compare material properties of various materials.
What is the improvement you would like to see?
Implement an Ashby Plot option in JMP Graph Builder. It would be good to have the option for nested catoegories as shown in the graph below.
In JMP 17, Graph Builder using 'Contours' with the 'HDR' contour type gets close to what I would like but it does not have options to include all data points inside the shape and the shape extends beyond the points. Also, it has multiple contour levels which cannot be turned to one level.
Why is this idea important? It would help communicate how our products' properties compare to currently existing products.
@jwiltsie can you describe what the size and shape of the ovals in the example plot you pasted are? Looking at some web references on this, the boundaries appear to generally be some sort of smoothed "convex hull" of the data points in each group.
