Meet the Author: interview with Jonah Berger Wharton Professor and best-selling author Jonah Berger has spent most of his career studying change, its impact on human behavior, and phenomena like viral marketing and social influence. In this episode of JMP On Air’s Meet the Author, Anne Milley interviews Dr. Berger to discuss his latest book, The Catalyst: How to change anyone's mind. Much like the idea of a catalyst in chemistry, Berger argues that there are a special set of circumstances one can apply to make change happen faster, easier and with less energy. The key is figuring out the barriers to change so you can lower the amount of energy an individual or group needs to employ to make a change. You’ll also learn the five barriers to change and more about the case studies and research Dr. Berger conducted to develop the core principles to overcoming objections to change he shares in his book … and this interview.

Tip of the Day |
We’ve all had it happen – IT sends a note about a mandatory restart and you find yourself moments away from losing all your data because you have numerous files open, unsaved! Never fear, in this episode of JMP On Air’s Tip of the Day, Mary and Pete show us how to quickly save all open files into your JMP Journal. Learn how to use the “Add All Open Files,” a great way to save all open projects all at once.

Ask the Data Doctor |
Creative and clever uses for column formulas is the focus of this episode of Ask the Data Doctor. Using interesting data like crime, automotive and nutritional information for candy bars, Brady shows us how powerful “select matching cells” can be to quickly extract information from data tables by highlighting only the appropriate rows. Learn how to do some amazing things including computations, and group and filtering. Brady also shows us how to easily select local data filters using the lasso feature, how to use the selected(rowstate()) formula to assign values dynamically and much, much more.

JMP Can Do That |
In this episode of JMP Can Do That, appropriately titled Fun and Games, Jordan Hiller gives us a look at the JMP Scripting Language (JSL), a full and robust programming language that powers JMP. By examining (and playing) JSL version of popular games like Sudoku Solver, Battleship, Asteroids, Tetris, Tanks he’ll show you how JMP can be both productive and fun. In addition to seeing the JSL code behind used behind the Battleship game, tune in to find out how Jordan fares against JMP’s AI (as programmed by JMP’s own Brady Brady).

Stats Snack |
Learn what correlation is…and what it isn’t Take a little bite out of the statistical concept of correlation in this episode of Stat Snacks. JMP’s Ruth Hummel gives us an overview of what correlation is… and what it isn’t. Is – a measure from -1 to 1 to see how linearly-related variables are to each other. But, two variables can be related to each other without having a high linear correlation. And, correlation doesn’t tell us anything about causality. You get the idea. Correlation is one of many topics covered in JMP’s free online statistics course, Statistical Thinking for Industrial Problem Solving.

JMP in Action |
JMP’s Peter Polito describes himself as “an ultra-marathoner in training.” But, with four children under the age of 10, a full-time job and countless other responsibilities, Peter can’t spend nearly as much time improving his times as he’d like. Enter Design of Experiments. Learn how Peter is DOE-ing himself to improve running economy quickly. Peter shares the important inputs he is measuring – coffee consumption, meat intake, hydrating options, time and pre-training, shorts and shoes all make the mix – and key outputs, like Grade Adjusted Pace, Mean Heart Rate and Perceived Difficulty logged after a run. Though still in progress, what are Peter’s conclusions? You’ll have to watch to find out!
