Oceans Count on Precious Sea Turtles. JMP Users Rely on Persistent JMP Testers.

Sea turtles like those found on NC beaches are a vital resource for maintaining ecosystems. They transfer nutrients from the oceans to beaches and coastal dunes to support the growth of sea grasses that limit beach erosion. Turtles contribute to the growth and health of corals by being one of the few species that eats sea sponges that can overwhelm coral populations.

Mandy Chambers, JMP Principal Test Engineer responsible for testing the new JMP 17 Workflow Builder, analyzes NC Sea Turtle populations as a hobby from year to year and applies the same steady, deliberate approach to her work testing JMP. She shared some of her basic principles for testing:

  • Use the types of data a JMP user would work with. Include all the variable data and modeling types and combinations that might relate to engineering and science problems we know our users face. Import data from various sources that might present a variety of data cleanup and preparation issues.
  • Look at the software with the eyes of a new user.  Do the menus and reports make sense? Is it easy to find what you want to do and relate where you are and what you see on screen to where you want to go or do next?
  • Look at the software with the eyes of an established user. Are the interface and reports in line with other related capabilities, menus and reports?
  • Report and follow up on problems with the Development Team.  Test and retest to make sure the new fix didn’t break or alter something else.
