Loss of legacy overlay plot

One of the most powerful tools that the JMP platform allowed in v16 and prior was the legacy overlay plot.  I used this constantly as there really was no substitute in any other software.  I had the preferences set to avoid overlay and it allowed extremely efficient look at a large number of variables.  Combined with distributions, coloring, lines on the x-axis etc., it was one of my default platforms in JMP.  I was able to manage exploration across large numbers of variables (50-100), zoom in, select certain data points, zoom back out.  Since I migrated to 17, the graph builder just can't do this.  Even to get part of the functionality this simple tool enabled takes a significant amount of time.  Anything over maybe 10-15 variables isn't possible to scroll through as before.

Is there any chance there is some code out there that can reproduce this old but reliable platform?

I am having trouble visualizing exactly how you used Overlay Plot.  Do you happen to have an old data table that has a saved Overlay Plot embedded script that shows the output functionality you describe?  Even a screen shot may be able to help.

Here is a VERY small example with labels on the x and y removed.  Graph builder could handle this but above ~ 10 variables it looks like it starts to choke (meaning all the labels run together, no vertical scrolling capability through the charts, etc.).  I've also noticed that for ordinal and categorical variables, graph builder treats those as levels rather than simply plotting on the y-axis. The overlay plot also defaulted to row number for the x if a label was not applied.  This was a great time saver.  This tool was so fast and efficient for exploration of structure within the data and enabling communication of findings.

I do not have the data that you have, however, if I stack the data and then order it, and then use the stack label as the Page variable, I can get it somewhat close to what you are displaying

I found that in JMP 17 you can turn off Graph Builder as the default platform for Overlay Plot in the preferences.  The old overlay plot functionality is restored if this is disabled.

Do you have access to JMP18? It does have few extra features in Graph Builder which might be able to do what you want to have (presets + option for "grid" like Page)

You might try scripting in JSL to replicate the old functionality.
