Here's where I'm starting with a map that uses the map shape role.

Go back to the data table and right click on the column name that has the information you want to use as a label (in my case it's the country name) and select Label/Unlabel.
![shot2.png shot2.png](https://community.jmp.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/17608iF24DB501C2D17CAD/image-size/medium?v=v2&px=400)
If you look at the list of column names it should have a little label tag icon next to it.
![shot3.png shot3.png](https://community.jmp.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/17607i72A0ADD9B13F0C94/image-size/medium?v=v2&px=400)
Select the rows in the data table for the shapes you want to label. Right-click in the area with the row numbers and select "Label/Unlabel."
![shot4.png shot4.png](https://community.jmp.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/17605i93456B6EEBA742A8/image-size/medium?v=v2&px=400)
The rows should have little label tags now, too.

The map should now show the labeled information as well
