Copy pasting column headers & data from Excel to JMP - changed behaviour in JMP19?

JMP 18 allowed copy pasting of column headers from Excel to JMP tables easily using point & click. See the video here:

Sadly, this isn't out of the box functionality for JMP 19. Anyone who knows a fix? I think this was really useful functionality to have and am wondering what made JMP remove it.

As a somewhat seasoned JMP user, this looks like it could be one of the things that makes new users decide against JMP. Could be I'm wrong, of course.

I don't know why the functionality was removed.
maybe it was too secret: Undocumented Secrets

For your approach (with column names in row 1),
you could directly paste the values with column names:

If the data is already in JMP,  "Move Up" is the coolest way to get the column names "up":

As an alternative, you can use "Paste column names"

All of us, we have similar issues : )

Re: Copy pasting column headers & data from Excel to JMP - changed behaviour in JMP19?

As mentioned earlier, there are several ways to address this after your data is in JMP. However, it should be faster (and with better handling of column data and modeling types) to use import tools:

  • Use "Paste With Column Names" under the JMP Data Table "Edit" menu.
  • Excel-specific
    • Use the JMP Excel Add-in in the Excel ribbon to transfer your selection from Excel to JMP using the "Data Table" button.
    • Import your .xls or .xlsx file into JMP rather than using copy/paste.
