Variance Budgeting and Monte Carlo Techniques to Aid Specification Setting

Variance Budgeting and Monte Carlo Techniques to Aid Specification Setting

Ronald Andrews and Joseph McGee, Bausch + Lomb

Raw material specifications are often set according to history. To set fit-for-use specifications, three different sensitivity experiments were run. This sensitivity information was combined with a variance budget and estimates of variability in a Monte Carlo simulation to predict modulus variability in contact lenses. The techniques can easily be adapted for other systems.
