Hi all, I thought you'd be interested in a new book club hosted by the American Statistical Association. We've got two different formats of the club. For some months, we are discussing an entire book in one hour! Then in the fall, we will have a book club like the JMP club where we read a book together and discuss chapters over multiple weeks. We are communicating on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/showcase/asa-book-club/.
I'll be leading a discussion of Malcolm Gladwell's book Talking to Strangers on June 13 at noon eastern time. I hope you will join me!

There's a Women in STEM feed over at Bluesky. I recently found two posts containing interesting articles and books I thought would be of interest to you.
Against the current: Dr Lisa-Ann Gershwin’s path to science | Royal Society
and the book recommendations - I'm looking forward to starting at least one of these over the winter break!
Women in Science Now: Stores and Strategies for Achieving Equity, by Lisa M.P. Munoz
The Exceptions: Nancy Hopkins, MIT, and the Fight for Women in Science, by Kate Zernike
Not Just for the Boys: Why We Need More Women in Science, by Athene Donald
Breaking Through: My Life in Science, by Katalin Kariko (we considered this book for the JMP book club!)
I wish you all a very merry Christmas and joy and peace for the holiday season.

Hi everyone,
we had our first European book club session today and it was a great discussion.
We spoke about how we can be more risks savvy and if that is something everyone can achieve. We could think about many additional examples. And we discussed the risk of AI and fake information and wondered about if there is a single source of truth.
Here is link to a TedX talk by the author: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4op2WNc1e4&list=PLUGoRy4e6cf2IujsG7ZKEzMBo-Kq37G9f
And here is a list of global risks Aziza shared from the Global Risks report: https://www.weforum.org/publications/global-risks-report-2024/digest/
Do you have any resources you discussed or want to add here?
