Usage of a ternary mixture designs

Gemma Barnes - Formulation Chemist , Syngenta

People can be intimidated by the words “Experimental Design.” They imagine making hundreds of samples with no guarantee of a clear result at the end. In this talk I aim to describe the use of a ternary mixture design to optimize the dispersant blend for a suspension concentrate containing a chemically unstable active ingredient. The screen used a (comparatively) small number of samples and enabled us to find the optimum dispersant blend to maintain AI stability in limited time. In addition, I will highlight a potential issue with confounded variables that robust experimental design enabled us to pinpoint and examine.

This is a really nice example of a thoughtful approach to building up a design sequentially. Thanks for sharing.
