Use to display continuous data in time sequence. Run Charts are very useful to discover trends and patterns over time and to make comparisons to other variables or groups.
Run Charts (Graph Builder)
- From an open JMP® data table, select Graph > Graph Builder.
- Drag a variable (or multiple variables at once) from the Variables list and drop in the Y zone. (e.g., ‘gross private domestic investment’ and ‘net exports of goods and services’).
- Drag and drop a variable indicating the time ordering in the X zone (‘Date’).
- Click on the Line icon in the graph pallet (top middle).
Tips:
- Right-click on the legend to change the line thickness or other line properties.
- Double-click on an axis to change axis settings.
- Float the cursor near the middle of the x-axis so that the hand icon appears. Click and drag up-and-down to zoom in/out of time regions. Drag the hand icon left or right to move forward/backward in the time scale.
Run Charts (Overlay Plot)
- From an open JMP data table, select Graph > Legacy > Overlay Plot.
- Select one or more continuous variables from Select Columns and click Y.
- If you have a column that indicates time ordering, enter the column into X, and click OK.
- Click on the red triangle and select Show Control Panel to launch the Graph Builder platform and its
collection of tools to modify the graph.
Note: Run charts can also be produced from the Control Chart platform (Analyze > Quality and Process > Control Chart > Run Chart).
