FAQ: What is the difference between an update and an upgrade?

A software update is a maintenance release.  For example, if the installed version is JMP 12.0 you can apply a maintenance update to bring the installed version of JMP to version 12.1

A software upgrade is a version change.  For example, if the installed version is JMP 10.0.2 you can upgrade to JMP version 12.1 by performing a software upgrade.
