Note
In JMP 9 and later, even when the explanatory variables are nominal (ordinal), confidence intervals for odds ratios and risk ratios can be displayed without creating dummy variables, as shown in the answer below.
In JMP 7 and JMP 8, the specifications for odds ratios and risk ratios when nominal or ordinal scales are used as explanatory variables have been changed.
JMP 7, JMP 8
|
Calculate odds ratios and risk ratios based on a certain level |
JMP 7 and earlier
|
Calculate odds ratios and risk ratios based on the average effect of explanatory variables (When odds are unit) |
This allows JMP 7 and JMP 8 to display level-based odds or risk ratio estimates for all level combinations.
However, currently, the confidence intervals are not displayed.
Therefore, to calculate confidence intervals for odds ratios or risk ratios where the explanatory variables are nominal (ordinal) scale, a dummy variable (continuous scale of 0/1) will be created.
Specific methods for creating and operating the data are listed in the "Related Materials" section of FAQ #2078 (How to calculate odds ratios and hazard ratios (risk ratios) using JMP and points to note).
