Hiearchical clustering platform

What inspired this wish list request?

Using hierarchical clustering platform to visualize patterns in large genetic data and drug response files.  The platform is optimally designed to highlight and label by row (Y-axis).  In a two dimensional cluster, the columns (X-Axis) are not able to be selected or colored effectively from the data table using column tags.  The only way to save x-axis information is to save the cluster value in a different file.  And even that is inscrutable since the cluster # is not marked anywhere on the visual.

What is the improvement you would like to see?

What would be very helpful is to implement the ability to select columns from the table and highlight them on the dendrogram x-axis with the same alacrity as the row dendrogram is labeled, selected or highlighted.

Why is this idea important?   X-axis dendroggrams that have many columns cannot be adequately labeled, selected or otherwise identified or related to features of the data table (eg column tags).  Recreating the ability to select, label and color the x-axis clusters in a similarly efficient manner as the y-axis would provide more visual relationships between the clusters and the table columns, particularly when there are column tags available for filtering, labeling etc.
