Graph builder and local data filter suggestions

I'd like to see two changes if possible:

  1. On the local data filter add in a button next to the red arrow that would clear the filtered item.  This is a frequently used option so not having to go into the red arrow for it would speed up user interactions.
  2. On graph builder, currently if you have a smoother or line element along with markers and the markers are not showing in the legend, when you try and change the smoother/line color it will change the marker color as well.  To get around this you must have the markers showing in the legend when you try and change the smoother/line color.  I'd like the functionality to be that if you right click a smoother/line element and change the color only the line would change.  However, if you select the element (and thus all the markers get selected as well) then when you right click to change the smoother/line color then the markers would change color as well.

Thanks for considering these requests.

Steve

#1) you mean here? [for an individual item]

like the one for the global "clear"

Hm, I can understand that going via the red triangle feels like "one unnecessary step". On the other hand, I's like to have the Data Filter as lim as possible - to get as many entries in as possible.

#2)

many users use the current behavior as a feature - to get consistent color settings for lines and points.

-> shouldn't be changed

For advanced users, the current color adjustment functionality in JMP is too limited. Adjusting a few settings can take several minutes, especially when the user has to unhide and hide entries to get the settings right.

I created a mockup for a Graph Builder Remote Control that enables fine-tuned control over many settings.
The panel on the right allows users to selectively limit which graph elements are affected.

A tiny trick: via the legend menu, one can apply the colors independently - without the need to unhide and hide entries:
