Control Charts - Normality Testing / Goodness of Fit

What inspired this wish list request? Part of my job is analyzing data from OQ/PQ validations for injection molding. We utilize control charts to assess stability and capability of CTQ dimensions per cavity. The information i need for this is the control chart, histogram with spec limits, capability summary, and assessment of normality. The legacy control chart i like the best because it includes a normal quantile plot and allows for preference control for shading zones and tests. The new IMR chart does not have preference control or normality test so i need to combine information from other sources which is messy and time consuming.

What is the improvement you would like to see? I would like to the see two items. First, the capabilities of the legacy control charts preference settings for the new control charts as the legacy will be discontinued in JMP 19. Second, there should be a selection to view the normal quantile plot on the histogram and/or the goodness of fit tests (anderson/darling or shapiro-wilk).

Why is this idea important? It is imperative that your data is normal when assessing capability. Including normal quantile plot or the anderson-darling/shapiro-wilk test will provide supporting evidence in a single area. The preference control will help make analysis quicker. Certain items arent necessary to show and deselecting them everytime is time consuming.

Hi @AlexEdmunds thanks for submitting this request. Can you please share a screenshot of the legacy IMR capability analysis results you are referring to?

Are you essentially requesting that the normal quantile plot and ability to run a Goodness of Fit test be added to the IMR Charts in Control Chart Builder when you run a capability analysis?

Jira JMP-4603 captures adding probability plots to capability analyses in Control Chart Builder.

Sorry for the delay on responding to this @mia_stephens. Below are the charts i am referring to.

Yes, I am requesting the normal quantile plot as well as goodness of fit options to be added to IMR chart in control chart builder.

@mia_stephens. Wanted to add that this would be for both IMR and X-Bar control charts.

@mia_stephens  Just wanted to follow up on this. What other information is needed for clarification? I recently downloaded JMP 19 and noticed Normal Probability Plot added to the control charts.

Hi @AlexEdmunds , yes, the normal probability plot has been added for both XBar and IR charts. Does this satisfy your request?

Hi @mia_stephens , although the normal probability plot is a nice step forward, it doesn't quite cover what I was hoping for. I'd love to see the Shapiro-Wilk and Anderson-Darling goodness-of-fit tests added, like we had in the legacy control charts. Also, being able to fit other distributions would be super helpful.

When presenting process capability, we need to show both stability and normality. The Control Chart Builder handles stability great, but it's missing those key goodness-of-fit details for normality and other distributions. Having these in one place would make analysis quicker and clearer.

Thank you for the additional information @AlexEdmunds, we understand the request.

Fitting distributions with goodness-of-fit tests has not been added to Control Chart Builder, but please note that the legacy control charts are still available in JMP 19. You can add them to the Quality and Process menu using a preference.
