Which What When with Reliability Analysis

 

In this episode of JMP in Action, Jerry Fish gives us a tour of JMP’s Reliability tools. Found under the Analyze/Reliability and Survival menu, Jerry shows you the many tools available in JMP when trying to measure reliability (e.g. estimates of what a product will fail, how long a patient will survive, etc.) JMP has three different types of reliability: Non-Repairable Systems (for instance, a toaster), Repairable Systems (maybe a car) and Survival Tools and Modeling (such as a patient in a hospital). After sharing all types of testing, Jerry takes a deeper dive in the Non-Repairable system testing. First, Jerry shows us the life distribution testing system function in action having JMP model when a motor fail. Then, he demonstrates Accelerated Life testing to check the reliability of a LCD light bulb before showing us Degradation Testing, where JMP can predict what percentage of a product would fail as time passes, helpful for studying things like drug expiration. Finally, Jerry looks at Reliability Block Diagram, a JMP Pro feature, which allows you to build a diagram that will allow you to display reliability across multiple factors.

Thanks for the quick update Jerry - I feel like JMP's reliability tools are a deeply hidden gem, and it is hard work to unseat certain incumbent tools as a result (but we keep working at it!)
