Managing Crashes When Using Graph Builder's Drag/Drop Functionality in JMP® Software

Issue Description

JMP® users may experience "flash crashes" when using the drag-and-drop feature in Graph Builder. These crashes cause JMP to shut down abruptly without providing the standard JMP Crash Report prompt upon restart nor generating crash logs in the TempJMPCrashReports folder.

Resolution

To avoid the crash, we recommend clicking instead of drag-and-dropping (see GIF below).

To prevent future crashes when using drag-and-drop, please do the following to retrieve a task-list dump* from your machine:

  • Press the Windows Key on your keyboard
  • Type Command Prompt into the search bar and right click > Run as Admin
  • When the program opens, use the following cmd line: tasklist > c:\process_list.txt
    • This will save the file to your C:\Drive.
  • Using File Explorer, navigate to your C:\Drive and find the process_list.txt file.
  • Open the process_list.txt file, and use the hotkey Ctrl + F and search for DGAgent.exe.
  • Verify that DGAgent.exe is visible in the list
  • If DGAgent.exe is visible, please reach out to your internal IT team to whitelist JMP.exe with Digital Guardian.
    • In the event DGAgent.exe is NOT visible, please contact JMP Technical Support at support@jmp.com for further instruction.

*Please note - you may potentially need your IT team's assistance for procuring the task-list dump depending on your user profile's level of permissions on the Windows machine.

Test to Confirm

Once JMP.exe has been whitelisted, open JMP Software and test the drag-and-drop feature within Graph Builder to verify full functionality.
