JMP® for Windows Fails to Launch with No Error Messages

In situations where JMP fails to launch, and no error messages are displayed, the most common problem is missing or corrupt Microsoft® Visual C++ Redistributable components.

JMP Software for Windows, including JMP, JMP Pro, JMP Clinical, and JMP Student Edition, utilize several Microsoft technologies, including the Visual C++ Redistributable components.

The best way to address Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable issues is to reinstall them.

**IMPORTANT** After reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, a reboot is required.

Due to changes in how the Visual C++ Redistributables are provided, this note is organized based on the installed JMP version as follows:

JMP 19.0.3 and newer

JMP 19.0.1 and older (including JMP 18)

JMP 19.0.3 and Newer

Beginning in JMP 19.0.3, JMP provides the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable components inside the Windows install location.  See reference below for your product.  {version} refers to the version of the JMP software you are using (i.e. 19).

How to Re-Install the Microsoft® Visual C++ Redistributable Delivered with JMP® Software for Windows

After identifying the location of the Visual C++ Redistributable components, please find two installers: one 32-bit installer (i.e. vcredist_x86_2022.exe) and one 64-bit installer (i.e. vcredist_x64_2022.exe).  Copy both files to your Desktop.

From your Desktop, run each installer individually.  After running both installers, please reboot your computer to ensure the necessary changes are correctly applied.

After rebooting, please launch JMP again.

JMP 19.0.1 and Older

In JMP 19.0.1 and older versions of JMP, the Visual C++ Redistributables were not provided after the installation completed.

To access the Visual C++ files, please download them from the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Download website.

How to Re-Install the Microsoft® Visual C++ Redistributable Downloaded

Download both the x64 and x32 versions of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables.

Save them your Desktop.

From your Desktop, run each installer individually.  After running both installers, please reboot your computer to ensure the necessary changes are correctly applied.

After rebooting, please launch JMP again.

Additionally Troubleshooting Steps

In some cases, Windows will not allow installing the same version of the Visual C++ Redistributable components over themself.  In this situation, the existing Visual C++ Redistributable components must first be uninstalled, both the 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) versions.

You can see how to uninstall applications on Windows using this Microsoft article. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uninstall-or-remove-apps-and-programs-in-windows-4b55f97...

You will be looking for applications that look like this:

Microsoft Visual C++ v14 Redistributable (x86) - 14.50.35719

Microsoft Visual C++ v14 Redistributable (x64) - 14.50.35719

After uninstalling, please reboot before attempting to install the Visual C++ Redistributable components.
