How does JMP® pick the initial cluster seeds in K-Means Clustering?

JMP® uses the same seed selection method as the SAS® FASTCLUS procedure, with METHOD=FULL on the initial seeding. Generally, this method starts at observation one then chooses observations within the data set that are far apart. Please see the Background section for the FASTCLUS procedure in the SAS/STAT User's Guide for a detailed explanation.
