Hello, I would like to copy only the first 8 characters of the rows of the column Material Number  in the column 2.

The Left( string, number of characters) should work for this case.

Another way (if you need the first part of the string befor the "-") would be to use the word function,

in a first step you can let JMP create the formula,

and then you need to set the word separating character to "-".
