JMP 16 Action Recorder questions

I've started using the Action Recorder (very nice feature) - but it has a few strange things.  First, the Run scripts button does not seem to do anything.  I can run a saved script by selecting the steps I want, right clicking, choosing "run scripts," and it works fine.  But the run scripts button does not do anything.  Is this a bug?  It may be related to my next question.

I do an analysis and save the script.  If I then open that script it works as stated above, but it also adds everything I am doing to that same script.  I realize it is logging everything, but if I close the script and reopen it, it has all the additional steps (like trying to reproduce the analysis, closing the file, etc.) - and there is no prompt to save or not save these changes to the script.  In other words, the script that I saved keeps getting changed by adding everything I am doing to it.  If I reopen the script, it is not the same thing I had previously saved, it has added to it.

Can anyone shed light on these issues?

Thanks.

Re: JMP 16 Action Recorder questions

I am afraid I do not follow your question.  Can you try the workflow below?

  1. Do an analysis, open tables, graphs, etc.
  2. Open the log
  3. Select the relevant actions
  4. Right click on an action > Save Script > To Script Window
  5. Save the script that opened as a .jsl file somewhere
  6. Close everything you have open
  7. Open the .jsl file and then press Run Script

Nothing should change in this script (jsl file) that you saved and re-opened.

Re: JMP 16 Action Recorder questions

Thank you, that worked.  I looked at the script that did  not work the other day and there were some unintelligible characters at the beginning of the script.  When I removed those, that script also worked.  I think the issue was the timing of when the script is saved.  You (I) need to save it before closing the file - then it seems to work and stays intact.  I believe I had been leaving the script window open and closing the file before saving the script.
