Capturing Metadata of Test

I am exploring the possibility of having our labs record data directly into JMP instead of in an excel template.  To do this, we would need to also capture metadata about the test, such as date of test, operator, material, etc.  Are there any best practices on how to do this?

My current investigation is looking into creating add-in that displays a modal window with fields that the operators could enter.  The add-in would then save the results as Table Variables.  The add-in would then also need to populate the same modal window with the results to view them later.  This also seems doable, but with a lot of custom coding that isn't very flexible. Are there any examples available of something similar that has already been done?

Thanks

I would suggest going to the JMP Marketplace ( https://marketplace.jmp.com/ ) and File Exchange ( https://community.jmp.com/t5/JMP-Add-Ins/tkb-p/add-ins ) to see what has been done with JSL. You will find many different examples of add-ins that can help give you ideas on how to approach your project. In many cases, the JSL is available so you can see how the add-ins were built.
