Are You a Good Decision Maker? A Look at Individual Characteristics of Adaptive Thinking

Are You a Good Decision Maker? A Look at Individual Characteristics of Adaptive Thinking

David Sais; Rick Sherwood, Corporate Black Belts, Sandia National Laboratories

At Discovery Summit 2010, author Dan Ariely showed us how we are all predictably irrational in how we make decisions. While we may be irrational in some or many of the decisions that we make, there may be evidence that individuals are predisposed to use different strategies for different tasks. Likewise, a person's ability to adapt to change and switch strategies may depend on inherent skills. JMP was used to analyze the results of a scientific study conducted to examine these correlations. We will invite participants to undertake tasks similar to those of the study respondents, and then we will show how JMP was used to explore the data and develop conclusions. We will be using many of the features in JMP 10, including neural networks, Scatterplot 3D, Prediction Profiler, partitioning, Fit Model and perhaps Graph Builder for mapping EEG data to corresponding performance data. The participants will see how the different JMP platforms played a part in developing our final conclusions.
