Language translation in the Community gets an upgrade

man-working-on-a-laptop-with-the-word-translate-on-J3A7WLH.JPGWe want Community members from around the world to stay connected. That's one of the reasons why the Community offers multiple language support (seeWhat’s new in Community Language Translation).

Since most Community members are from native English speaking countries, the default language preference is English. Until now, if English was not your preferred language, you could set your preference in your Community preferences or create your posts in English. While this has worked well over the past few years, there have been instances when non-English text was not translated when the post was written in the member's default language. To help alleviate this, translation in the Community is getting another upgrade.

We are happy to announce that when you create (or edit) a post, the text will be automatically translated based on the language the text is written in rather than the preferred language set in your Community preferences.

That's not to say we don't recommend setting your preferred language in your Community preferences. We do. Setting your preferred language allows you to view content automatically in that language.

Remember, you can always view content in another language by following these steps:

  1. At the top of the board or post, click “Choose Language.”  Ryan_Gilmore_0-1598624209978.png
  2. A drop-down menu of languages displays. By default, the language selected is based on the language set in your community preferences. Select a different language to view content in that language.

Enjoy connecting with your fellow Community members in your language choice.
