Histograms

(view in My Videos)

Meanwhile, everybody knows histograms from the daily news about Corona infections. Time to take a closer look into this very basic and informative statistical tool. Almost all histograms share one characteristic: the bars have identical widths. This is only one specific representation of histograms and there are good reasons for their popularity. In histograms the area of the bars always represents the number of observations within each bin. Varying bin sizes may be required from time to time and then a bit more attention is required for their interpretation. Join me for some reasoning about histograms, including – of course - the presentation of an add-in that creates histograms with varying bin widths.
