Supplemental materials for Castro-Schilo & Russo (2021). Fitting structural equations models with interactive and dynamic tools in JMP Pro

Castro-Schilo, L., & Russo, E. (2021). Structural Equation Modeling: A Multidisciplinary Journal.

Click here to learn about the latest features in JMP Pro 18.1.

The article shows step-by-step examples of fitting common structural equations models (SEM) using the SEM platform in JMP Pro version 16.0. The data used in the article’s analyses are available in the Open Science Framework.

The specific files needed to follow along with the analyses are:

OSF_COVID_Threat_Study2.sav
OSF_COVID_Threat_Study3.sav

The videos below show the interactive and dynamic features of the SEM platform for fitting confirmatory factor models including the assessment of reliability and validity of new constructs, path analysis with latent variables, and longitudinal factorial invariance models.

Confirmatory Factor Analysis
The authors replicate analyses of a confirmatory factor model of two newly developed constructs: realistic and symbolic perceptions of COVID-19 threats (Kachanoff, Bigman, Kapsaskis, & Gray, 2020).

Evaluating Reliability and Validity of Constructs
Using data from Kachanoff et al.’s (2020) second study, a six-factor confirmatory factor analysis is used to show the Assess Measurement Model feature of the SEM platform in JMP Pro 16.0. The option provides statistics and visualizations to facilitate quantifying the appropriateness of a new survey measuring intangible constructs.

Path Analysis with Latent Variables
The authors show how to fit a path analysis with latent variables using the Study 2 data from Kachanoff et al. (2020). The path analysis replicates key findings from the original article.

Longitudinal Factorial Invariance
This video shows the steps for performing longitudinal factorial invariance analyses of the realistic threat construct using Study 3 data from Kachanoff and colleagues (2020).

NOTE: A new model shortcut for longitudinal measurement invariance was added in JMP Pro 18 making models even easier to fit and compare.
