Make better predictions! The predictive power of machine learning models depends on hyper-parameter selection. Years of university machine learning exercises have led us to develop a method for adjusting hyper-parameters that we call “Tune and Zoom”. This method is described in detail, and the performance and profitability are compared to JMP’s default hyper-parameters, standard tuning table techniques, and other hyper-parameter optimization techniques. Tips and tricks for implementing these techniques in the classroom are also shared.
