Often, data need to be organized and re-structured before they can be analyzed to provide useful information and reports. Fortunately, JMP has interactive tools that make this process easy. See techniques to effectively organize your data, including tricks for summarizing, extracting relevant portions, and combining data from multiple sources.

See how to:

  • Organize
    • Split from tall to wide and map values from a single column into multiple columns
    • Stack from wide to tall and combine multiple values into a single column
    • Transpose by rotating or exchanging rows and columns
  • Summarize
    • Create new data table with summarized information
    • Tabulate to create visuals to use in reports
  • Extract
    • Filter to reduce data shown in the data table
    • Subset to reduce amount of data in the data table
      • Linked tables so changes in subset are also changed in main table
  • Combine
    • Update to add values from a secondary table to main table, making it wider
    • Concatenate to add new data to bottom of open table, making it taller
  • Build queries (Query Builder)
    • Treat tables as if they were part of a database and getsexact data you need from multiple tables in one step

Suggested Prerequisites:

  • Basic experience importing data and navigating JMP tables.
